How do I choose eyes and a wig?

Choose BJD eyes and wigs from the exact head specifications instead of the doll’s height. Learn what to ask before ordering.

The short answer

Start here.

For a wig, start with head circumference. For eyes, start with the exact head’s recommended dimensions. Keep the units and seller options with the request; a doll-height label is not enough.

Measure the head, not the doll’s height

VOLKS’ wig guide uses head circumference and notes that its own approximate fit table may not apply to every head shape. Measure the actual head and compare the chosen cap’s stated range. Its letter codes are maker-specific, not global size standards.

  • Ask whether the wig size is in inches or centimetres.
  • Record the intended head model and cap range.
  • Confirm the fibre and whether heat styling is permitted for that exact wig.

Check the exact head’s eye specification

VOLKS explains that eye openings differ between heads, and changing eye size or gaze changes the expression. Ask the head maker which eyes are suitable, then confirm the seller’s diameter and iris option if listed. Fitting or removal methods also differ between construction types.

Keep a first change simple

Before an unfamiliar eye change, identify how the existing eyes are secured and use instructions for that head. If you cannot identify the material or fixing method, ask the maker or a suitable service provider before removing anything.

  • Send a head/model link and the accessory link together.
  • Keep the exact colour and size option from the listing.
  • Ask about compatibility before treating a sample photo as proof.

Can I use heat on every wig?

No. Check the exact fibre and manufacturer instructions before heat styling.

Sources & scope.

These guides explain common starting points. Names, measurements, included items and care instructions vary by maker and model. Follow the current maker’s instructions and confirm the exact doll’s specifications before buying, cleaning or changing parts.

We prioritise doll makers’ own information. A maker’s example describes that maker’s products; it is not a universal size or compatibility standard.
